Fire · Colour · Light- On Enamelling and Becoming is a book about engaging with the art of enamelling, about my work set between meticulous craftsmanship and creative intuition, about a mysterious inner source of creativityNature as a teacher, and the search for meaning through artmaking.

It will be released on the 15th of August 2026 and is available for pre-order now.

While the book is, on the surface, all about enamelling and my own perspective on this ancient craft technique, it is at its core about the interweaving of a creative practice, Nature and craftsmanship. This wonderful project is a collective effort, bilingual in German and English, with essays by guest contributors.

Ulrich Haass (former director of the Goldschiedeschule Pforzheim) opens the book with an introduction to enamel and my work. Prof. Dr. Andreas Huth (Otto Friedrich University Bamberg) wrote about encountering historical enamel as a visitor in a museum context, and on the different factors that contributed to the evolution of enamelling techniques through history. Dr. Sabine Wilp (President of the Bundesverband Kunsthandwerk/German Crafts Association) wrote about craftsmanship and its meaningmaking potential and relevance in our current age. Prof. Dr. Hubert Sowa (artist & art philospher; Pädagogische Hochschule Ludwigsburg) offers a more philisophical perspective on an embodied practice of artmaking and engaging with the natural world.

These contributions are complemented by my own musings about my work, more subjective and poetic than analytical, offering an insight into my creative practice, my thinking and my relationship with materials, Nature and time. Mostly, the book is a visual journey of carefully composed images, both of my process in the studio and of my finished pieces, painting a multi-layered picture of an art practice – situated somewhere between experience, reflection and sensory perception.

The book is not a manual and will not teach you the basics of enamelling, but rather offers a unique, subjective perspective on the topic.

Fire · Colour · Light – On Enamelling and Becoming is the first publication by our newly established imprint NONNE 11 dreiviertel Publishers. Alvaro-Luca Ellwart is responsible for the book’s concept, editorial design, typesetting and layout.
