Guest Speaker at Enamel 360° - The Enamelist Society’s International Virtual 2026 Conference | 23 - 28 July 2026
I am honoured to have been invited to speak at this year’s Eamelist Society Conference titled Enamel 360°.
The Enamelist Society is a USA-based volunteer arts organization founded in 1987 for the purpose of promoting the art of enameling.
Please note that this is an international virtual conference, meaning you can join remotely from anywhere.
I am delighted to share the stage with wonderful enamelists Jennifer Wells, Beate Gegenwart, Amir Sheikhvand, Aurélie Guillaume and Fred Rich.
Please see this link for registration and further information. Times are given in Eastern Time, meaning my lecture is scheduled from 10:45 - 11:45 am Eastern Time (USA) or 16:45 - 17:45 Central European Time.
I will speak about:
Enameling: A Dance of Fire, Color & Light
During my talk, I want to explore how enameling can become a dialogue between the artist’s intention and the material’s agency, between creative intuition and technical precision. I delve into my deep enchantment with the enameling process and its seductive possibility for spontaneity, dictated by the firing process. Then I will widen the aperture to speak of my creative practice as a whole, the interweaving of my drawing, goldsmithing and enameling, and my upbringing in South Africa. Artmaking, to me, is a general way of being in the world with the power to create meaning. The talk will be concluded with the introduction of my forthcoming book “Fire · Colour · Light - On Enamelling and Becoming”, out on August 15th, 2026.
