Undergrowth

€350.00

Original painting.

Watercolour and ink on 300g/m2 watercolour paper.
Size: 34 x 24 cm, unframed.

Born in last year’s deep winter quarantine time, this image explores the tangledness of our inner garden once again, framed in autumn colours.

Composing, creating - with lines on paper, shapes in metal, in colour, in sounds, in words - is an act that does something inexplicable for the human brain. I'm very interested in this, especially since we actually know so little about the mystery of consciousness and how it developed.

If nutrients are the fuel my body runs on, making things, or rather what happens in my brain when I am creating, is fuel for my soul. It feeds my will power and inner energy levels, it's a different energy cycle from the body, which is why the body can be exhausted but the mind still on fire. Whatever chemical process is triggered in the brain, it keeps me sane, it grounds me, it enables me to face my fears head-on, to ask the hard questions. There's a deep inner contentment and a sense of purpose there. Honestly, I believe this creative capacity - the ability to combine seemingly unrelated ideas and fill in the gaps using our imagination - is probably what suddenly catalysed us from our ancient pre-human brains to the supersized homo sapiens brain.

Note: Frame can be added on request (at an additional cost depending on the frame). Please also note that this may influence your shipping option depending on where you are.
